Your Role in Recovering From Addiction As You Access the Rehab
A rehab will help you to overcome addiction because the experts have the experience and the skills unlike trying this by yourself. The experts can do so little if you are not committed to the program. There are the guidelines to enhance your recovery by yourself as you undergo rehabilitation the rehab.
You should be honest when sharing your experiences in the therapy sessions to help yourself to recover quickly. Do not hide withdrawal symptoms and other problems outside the rehab that you are facing because the therapist may not be able to offer you appropriate help. Accept your flaws, especially the ones that contributed towards your addiction. Forgive family members of their actions like divorce, child abuse, and neglect and more that have contributed to your addiction.
the transformation that you are going through should be embraced with positivity. Change your lifestyle, for example, quit friendships that can make you relapse, avoid alcoholic parties, get rid of the minibar in the house and more. There are more positive benefits of the change that you should be determined to enjoy such as stronger and better relationships with your family, friends, and colleagues.
Keep yourself busy by growing your talents and skills. When you stay idle you tempt yourself to access the drugs or spend time with old friends who influenced you into taking drugs. You will get a better job when you are out of the rehab if you use the time at the rehab to polish your skills and talents.
You do not have to agree with the advice of the therapists and members of your group therapy but listen to them. When your pride assures you that your situation is better than theirs, it will be helping you to dig a pit for yourself, but the worst thing is that pride will run away from you when you are in the pit and leave you with humility. Sometime later in life, the advice may be relevant in your life.
The experiences of others should not sound like stories to your because they are lessons for you to learn to avoid the same problems from happening to you. When others talk about how their families and marriages broke, how they dropped out of school, spent time in jail and more because of addiction, that should be your wake up call. Find out how they quit their addiction and developed the relationships that have weakened because of addiction and use those methods in your life too.
Appreciate each little progress that you make. Do not assume twelve hours of sobriety as a simple achievement because some people have failed to make it to half a day of sobriety; therefore, clap for yourself and progress to days, weeks, months, a year and forever remain sober.
